Vivo's in-display fingerprint sensor - The next era of smartphones
Today's smartphones are getting sleeker than being a bulky stuff with more area focused on display rather than home button. Now the vivo have introduced a new tech in smartphone, Vivo's in-display fingerprint sensor . This is a smarter way for any company to save space in a phone's design. Vivo is the first company to use the new fingerprint sensor technology. The Vivo's in-display fingerprint sensor seems to be a fame changer for sure. Vivo's in-display fingerprint sensor was unveiled on CES 2018.
The future of smartphone bio-metrics the in-display fingerprint sensor is not much different than any other sensor . It could be placed any were provided it has a small contact point with main board of the phone. In-display fingerprint sensor is capable of replacing the veteran methods of capacitive type sensor's. It is an optical sensor which is placed in dead center near bottom of the display , which is the best place to reach with either thumb while holding the phone . The specification for this feature is that it work only on OLED displays . The activated sensor illuminates only pixels coinciding the sensor and your finger print is scanned . The sensor is not visible while display is turned on. It could be seen under the display if the phone is tilted at an angle with display turned off .
Even though in-display fingerprint sensor is a smarter way to save space , synaptics quotes a 0.7 second response time for authentication. It is a bit slower than the best capacitive sensor's available quoting 0.2 seconds. Like in any fingerprint sensor , a feather touch won't serve the purpose . A bit pressure should be applied to the finger so fingerprint would be flattened making it easier for the sensor to read. The best part of the sensor is that it is to be enabled only when phone requires it .
The in-fingerprint sensor incorporated smartphones would be released by Vivo soon . And the same sensor would be made available to other smartphone companies by synaptic s and could be expected in the upcoming models in 2018. It sure going to be game changer for sure , but will it comes to budget models ? Only thing we can do is wait for the release and hope it will be a game changer.
